Clean Beauty / My Non-Toxic Morning Skincare Routine

08 17

Hey there! Today I wanted to share what my current non-toxic morning skincare routine looks like. Thankfully there are many more clean beauty options on the market than even a few years ago. I’ve tried A LOT and I’m here to share my favorites and the ones that actually work.

As I’ve mentioned in previous clean beauty posts, I look to the EWG and Yuka apps to evaluate ingredients in product. If it is EWG verified or in the green, I will use a product. These are both great resources with high standards when it comes to assessing endocrine disruptors, carcinogens and allergens.

Please keep in mind everyone’s skin type, climate and diet are different, and skin needs/goals vary. In my case, I live in a dry climate so hydration is a priority. I also want to address pigment and this is why I use a vitamin c serum and mineral SPF each morning.

You will see I don’t wash my face in the morning. I want to point this out as it is intentional and I know I will get asked. I’m careful of not stripping my face of good/healthy oils. After ice rolling my first product step is starting with a vitamin C serum. In the evening I double cleanse to get of the SPF and makeup I wear however I use a gentle oil cleanser and micellar water. Again being mindful of not stripping my skin. I’ll be posting my nighttime routine coming next week – stay tuned…

Below you will find my step-by-step routine and details about each non-toxic product

My 5 Step Non-Toxic Morning Skincare Routine

1. Ice Roller – Before starting my products, I like to de-puff and tighten my face. I do this using my Skinny Confidential ice roller. This is by far the best one on the market, staying cold for SO long.

2. Vitamin C Serum – This is one of my favorite C serums I’ve ever used. It’s a super lightweight serum and targets my brown spots as well as protects my skin from the environment. The Biossance brand is EWG verified so you know whatever products you pick up from them will be non-toxic.

3. Peptide Serum – GET READY! If you’re looking for dewy, bouncy skin, this peptide serum is for you! This is by far my favorite product of the year. I started testing it out in February and noticed a difference almost immediately. The peptides have a firming effect on the skin – yes please! It also has hyaluronic acid, which adds hydration. If you add one item to your routine, this is it! LOVE IT!

4. Hydrating Cream – As I mentioned I live in a dry climate + I want to be dewy AF, so another layer of moisturizer is happening. This is the newest product of the 5 I’ve been using and I love. U Beauty has put a lot of resources into the science of their products and this hydrator is incredible. The silky smooth cream goes onto the skin so nicely, and locks in moisture all day long. This product is great to wear under makeup.

5. Tinted Mineral SPF Moisturizer – I’m not a big sunscreen wearer as it’s typically filled with chemicals BUT I do want to protect my face/neck. This is why I always opt for a mineral options with non-nano zinc oxide. Essentially this means it won’t get into your blood stream. Saie is by far my all time favorite for protection, hydration/dewiness as well as a medium coverage tint. Most days I wear just this, no foundation. I use the color: three + half.

  1. Hi Kasey. I wanted to share my experience with Biossance. I bought the whole line about 3 years ago and was loving using it. Everything felt so good! About 4 months in, I started having a red, burning sense on my face. I quit using these products and it went away. Evidently, something in the product built up in my skin and it was too saturated and caused the allergic reaction. My guess is it was the squaline as it’s a newer product in skin care. So I avoid it now. I was wanting to share incase anyone else reports something similar to you.

All the best! Thanks for what you write and the depth with which you do your research.

    Cheers!! Laura

    • Thank you for sharing your experience, Laura! I’m sorry that happened. I haven’t had any reactions (yet). Thanks for the heads up.
