Now that many of us are spending more time at home, I wanted to share how I stay productive. This blog post is about what works for ME! Everyone is different however I thought I’d share what I do in the hopes of helping y’all!
First things first, have a plan! If you’re going into each week without thinking through anything, it’s a recipe for anxiety, stress and inevitably NOT being productive. Every Sunday I take about 30-60 minutes and make a plan for the week. I schedule out when I’m going to do house chores, work, take care of myself (i.e. workout), etc. This simple thing alleviates SO much anxiety!
Each Sunday I start by making a meal plan for the week along with a grocery list. I find many of my recipes via Pinterest, in my cookbooks or make them up myself. I know every day what I’m going to cook that night and I have all of the ingredients to do so. My stress about dinner is gone and I’m not making multiple trips to the market!
I also think through what days I’m going to do home chores: laundry, change the sheets and deep clean the house. Separating these items out and scheduling them at their own time is helpful. I typically do light cleaning throughout the week to “maintain” the house. I find if I block a few hours a week to “deep” clean thing like the bathrooms and floors, it’s more productive.
When it comes to my work schedule, I also plan the upcoming week. I know the days/time blocks I have to shoot content, write blog posts, answer emails/DMs, Instagram Story talking points, meetings, etc. I don’t believe in multi-tasking but rather focusing on one thing at a time. It helps me focus, be more productive and creates space to be creative. Can you tell there’s a theme?! LOL Have a plan and be organized!!
I use my ical and an amazing app called TEUX DEUX to help plan my life! I love this app because I can schedule everything for the week on the day(s) I’d like to do it. You can cross off a task once its complete, and move items around easily. I’m very visual so this app is perfect for me!
So how do I get things done with a baby?!! He is also on a schedule and it is life changing! We did the Taking Cara Babies newborn class when Ford was 6 weeks old. He now sleeps through the night and is on a consistent schedule during the day. This allows me to know when I have blocks to get home items done, carve out time for work and opportunities to take care of myself (i.e. workout and shower) each day. AND trust me, I know as he grows, his schedule will change. For now it is working and I’ll take it a day at a time!
My next tip may be the hardest one for most of us to do… ASK FOR HELP! In order to actually be productive, we can’t take on everything. At the end of the day, we are only human! A lot of women try to do it all. Trust me, I get it! I’m one of those people. BUT I’ve learned as I have taken on more in my professional life and now, having a baby, I need help! Luke does the 4PM feeding, which allows me to have a longer block to work, get my to-dos completed and cook dinner. It’s been a game changer for my sanity. AND I’m just a nicer person at the end of the day! Ha!
Lastly, this may sounds silly, BUT I make my bed each day AND get “ready”! Ya, ya, it sounds simple however when I do these two things, I tend to have a better day.
A lot of the tips I’ve shared with y’all are pretty basic, but add them all up and they equate to a healthy mindset! These help me stay positive and feel good!
