My Mind & Body Morning Routine

Hi guys! I know the world looks a bit different at the moment with quarantine life, social distancing and businesses shut down. If you’re like me, it can be unsettling and cause a bit of anxiety.

Today I wanted to share what I do each morning to take care of my mind and body! AND by “morning”, I mean after I’ve already gotten up to pump, feed Ford and play with him. My ME time starts when he goes down for his first nap around 8AM. Ya, I’ve already been up for a few hours! 😉 #momlife It’s SO important for my own health and wellbeing to create a block of time each day for moi! This typically happens in the morning from 8-10AM. Let me share what I do…

How do I calm my mind and anxiety?

There are multiple things I do for my mental health. I’m currently using the CALM app for guided meditation. I love the 10 minute sessions. They also have sleep stories that you could use in the evening if you have trouble falling asleep. Fortunately I don’t have that issue. With a new little one, I pass out once my head hits the pillow. I also enjoy an affirmation book called, Words from a Wanderer. I like to flip to a random page each morning, read the quote and reflect on how it pertains to my life. A bit of introspection in the morning helps me set my intention for the day and stay positive. Exercise is also a HUGE help if I’m feeling anxious or stressed. More about what I do below.

What supplements do I take and why?

So now that we’ve talked about my mind, let’s chat about health. I get asked about supplements and my energy all the time. Here’s a little run down of the things I do to help my body function well:

Athletic Greens – This is one of my favorite supplements in all of the land because it supports immunity, energy, digestion and recovery! It’s packed full of 75 vitamins, minerals and whole food-sourced ingredients. I mix it up every morning with water and GOOD news, it doesn’t taste bad! Athletic Greens is paleo, keto, and vegan friendly and has NO: wheat, dairy, gluten, corn, lactose, sucrose, dextrose, egg, yeast, peanuts, animal products, GMO’s, herbicides, pesticides, harmful chemicals, artificial colors, preservatives, artificial sweeteners, or added sugar. SO ya, it’s clean!!

Ritual Multivitamin – Ritual’s vitamins are packed with key nutrients for women, with two multivitamin options based on age and a prenatal. Along with being vegan, gluten free and non-GMO, they are made with no colorants or shady fillers, aligning with their mission of transparency! I also love that they don’t hurt my stomach after taking them. Trust me, your bod will thank you! Try them for yourself and take 10% off your first 3 months with code: SBKLIVING.

Thorne Vitamin C w/ Favonoids – I was doing a bit of research about postpartum hair loss and vitamin C came up frequently. I added this to my regimen last month and I’m already seeing a difference! It promotes optimal immune function and is important in collagen production which enhances skin, nails and hair!

Thorne Vitamin B-Complex #12 – I get asked how I have SO much energy… well, it’s because I take good care of myself including taking vitamin B. It supports energy production and healthy neurological function.

Thorne Vitamin D – Most of us are unfortunately deficient in vitamin d from the lack of sunlight we get. It’s a good idea to add it to your daily supplements to help support your bones and muscles. I also take it because I’m breastfeeding and it’s great for Ford while he’s growing!

Pumpkin Oil – Like vitamin C, pumpkin oil is known to help boost hair growth for lashes, eyebrows & hair. I’m here for it! After having a baby, my hair started to fall out. A few months ago I began to put this in my coffee each morning. It has helped SO much.

What do I do for workouts?

If you’ve followed me for awhile, you know I’m all about being active! I’ve created a little at home gym I’m loving. It’s been great since I’m a new mom and with the quarantine currently happening. I did a blog post all about it here. Check it out to see how to create one for yourself. Here is what I do to keep my bod fit:

Peloton – I’m a huge fan of the peloton bike. Before getting it, I cycled for years at the gym. It’s SO convenient because you can hop on whenever you want. Now that I’m a mom and have less time, it’s perfect for me! You can select the length and type of the workout along with the instructor you’d prefer. They also have live classes that are really fun! Peloton now offers more than just cycling and running. You can stream yoga, strength, meditation and more! SO if you’re at home and don’t have the bike or tread, that’s OK!! Download the app for a free 90 day trail and try all the other types of classes. If you like it, maybe invest in some equipment down the road! 😉 My favorite teachers are Cody, Ally, Robin and Alex.

Barre3 – I love barre classes in general as I’m a former dancer. You can get a great workout, tone the bod and only need a little bit of space. Perfect for an at home workout. I prefer Barre3. I stream it right from my computer and like the Peloton, you can select length and type of workout along with the instructor you want. Get your first 15 days free here!

Create my own workouts – Since I’ve been active my entire life, a dancer and an athlete, I can whip together a workout pretty fast. I started sharing them on Instagram stories and now my IGTV channel. Check them out here!

Walk/Hike – Just a good ole’ walk or hike will do the trick! It helps with my mind, body and spirit. Getting outside in the fresh air and moving my body is always a YES in my book!
