White Farmhouse Mudroom

Farmhouse Mudroom Details

It all started with a picture on Pinterest… as most of my house inspo did 😉  I saw a clean white mudroom paired the most beautiful farmhouse sink, black hardware and barn lights.  I immediately knew, this was in my future! 😉

When Designing the mudroom it was not only about the aesthetics but function too.  This room is used A LOT if not the most, other than the kitchen.  I created as much storage as humanly possible with the different sized spaces, small drawers mixed with medium and tall cabinets, and then paired it with hooks and bins for optimal use.  I painted the cabinets “Simply White” a la Benjamin Moore.  I used this color throughout my home as it is THE perfect white.  I also added a little extra design on the top cabinets with an ‘X’ detail.  This is one of my most favorite touches in this room!  You will find ‘X’s” throughout my home and this has been a great way to tie in the “farmhouse” design.  Oh and please note, y’all… the mudroom is currently, and probably never will be, this clean – LOL!  There are coats hanging, bins filled with shoes and laundry going.  BUT hey, that’s what it’s for!

As I started my tile selection for the backsplash, countertop and floor, I knew I wanted to continue with the “clean” look, yet create character in the room with shapes.  This is why I chose to lay the modern slate floor in a herringbone pattern.  I think it turned out beautifully!  I also decided on a smaller 2″ hex backsplash rather than basic subway tile, which I used in the kitchen, to change it up a bit.  Both of these tiles are visually different, but still in-line with a simple modern farmhouse theme.  I finished off the space with a basic white quartz for the countertop.

After I had designed the mudroom cabinets and selected the tile, it was time to choose light fixtures and hardware!  In my opinion these can make or break a room.  I knew from my Pinterest inspo that I wanted to use barn light pendants, and specifically three if the room could fit it.  I found these flat black gems at Barn Light Electric Company.  If you are on the hunt for any type of barn lights – interior or exterior, check them out!  I also used two different version on the outside of my house.  My black beauty specs are: color “textured black”, 12″ shade and 24″ stem.  Finally I wanted the hardware to match the lighting so I selected black cabinet pulls and cast iron hooks.

Last and certainly not least, it was time to add in a little decor.  I found THE cutest custom laundry sign a la Etsy.  I got it made with our last name, the year we were married (established) and where we live.  It’s SO farmhousey with the wood trim, black background and white text.  This vendor has an enormous selection of fun signage for your house – check them out here!  I then added in a fun “farmers market” tin I found at Home Goods paired with my fave country decor – cotton stems.  Next up I selected natural baskets for under the bench.  It was a great way to bring in some warmer tones to the space.  These babies are a great budg find a la target and are the perfect size for shoes!  I will link all of my other goodies and finishes below.

  1. Beautiful design! The link to the gray slate floor has expired. Do you still have info on the flooring product?

  2. Hi there ! Love this. Are the cabinets wide enough for hanging jackets on a hanger? I always see mudrooms with hooks but I’m really looking to have it fit hangers since we have so many winter coats that are bulky.

  3. This is just beautifully done! Every room you do blows me away. Going to get some Simply White paint tomorrow and try my own version of this. Just wondered if you could tell me what finish you use for the paint? Matte, Eggshell, Satin or Semi-gloss? Thanks
