Non-Toxic Mineral Sunscreen Favorites: Clean SPF Swaps I Can’t Live Without

05 14

Hey friends! If you’ve been hanging around SBK Living for a bit, you know I’m all about those intentional, low-tox swaps that make our homes (and our skin) feel as good as they look. Summer in Sun Valley means long days outside with the boys—hiking, playing, and soaking up that mountain sunshine—but I’m not willing to trade glowing skin for hidden toxins. That’s why I made the switch to mineral SPF sunscreens years ago, and I’ve never looked back.

Chemical sunscreens (the ones with ingredients like oxybenzone, avobenzone, or octinoxate) can absorb into your bloodstream, potentially disrupt hormones, and even harm coral reefs. Mineral formulas, on the other hand, use non-nano zinc oxide or titanium dioxide to sit on top of the skin and physically reflect UV rays. They’re gentler (especially for sensitive skin, kids, and pregnancy), reef-safe, and way more aligned with the low-tox lifestyle we’re building here. No white cast worries with the right formulas, and the textures have come such a long way—dewy, moisturizing, even tinted for everyday wear.

Here are my current non-toxic mineral sunscreen favorites (all clean, effective, and ones I actually reach for daily). I rounded them up in a collage below so you can shop them easily.

Face: Tinted Options (my everyday go-tos for a natural glow)

Agent Nateur Dewy Drops (SPF 50): These tinted drops give the most beautiful, lit-from-within finish. Lightweight, hydrating, and buildable—perfect for days I want a little coverage without feeling like I’m wearing makeup. I wear the color, Almond. I mix a few drops with my moisturizer or wear alone for that dewy “no-makeup” makeup look.

Saie Slip Tint (Moisturizing): This one feels like skincare/makeup with SPF. It’s ultra-creamy, blends like a dream, and gives a soft, natural tint that evens out redness without looking heavy. Ideal for busy mornings when I need one step that does it all. I wear it most days in lieu of foundation. This is by far one of my ALL-TIME clean beauty favorites!!

Attitude Oceanly Tinted Oil Stick (SPF 30): Stick format = zero mess for on-the-go reapplication (hello, soccer practice sidelines and long days on the boat). The tinted oil melts into skin beautifully and leaves a healthy glow. Plastic-free packaging is a bonus for our low-tox life.

Face: Clear Options (when I want zero tint)

DIME Beauty Wonderscreen Broad Spectrum SPF 50 Cream: This is my “set it and forget it” cream. Feather-light, no white cast, and it layers perfectly under makeup or skincare. Feels like nothing is there, yet it’s doing serious work.

Solara Suncare Guardian Angel Drops (SPF 50): Serum-like texture with a plumping, energizing feel. I love the glow it leaves behind—feels like a treatment + protection in one. The “plasma + energize” formula is packed with clean botanicals that actually nourish skin. I love pairing this with one of my tinted options for extra protection.

For the Body (family-friendly, non-greasy formulas)

Solara Suncare Clean Freak Nutrient Boosted Daily Sunscreen (SPF 30, Unscented): Plant-based and loaded with skin-loving ingredients. Spreads easily, absorbs fast, and doesn’t leave that sticky film. The whole family uses this one—great for everyday wear and water-resistant enough for the splash pad.

Primally Pure Sun Cream SPF 30 (Tallow-Based, Unscented & Lavender Mint): This one is a game-changer if you love natural, ancestral ingredients. Grass-fed tallow + sheer zinc creates a beautiful, non-greasy finish with the most soothing lavender-mint scent or opt for the unscented option. Feels luxurious and incredibly clean. I apply this one before the kiddos go off to school or camp on sunny days.

Attitude Sunly Mineral Sunscreen (SPF 30, Unscented): My no-fuss, truly fragrance-free staple. Lightweight cream texture, easy to apply, and perfect for sensitive skin or little ones. The whole tube disappears into skin without any residue.

Quick tip from my routine: I apply face sunscreen as the last step in my skincare (after serums and moisturizer), wait a few minutes, then do makeup. For body, I keep sticks and tubes in the car and boat bag for easy reapplication every 2 hours (or after swimming/sweating). Layering over a lightweight moisturizer or body oil helps everything glide on beautifully.

Making the mineral SPF swap was one of the simplest changes that delivered the biggest peace of mind. It’s just one more way we protect our family while keeping things beautiful, intentional, and toxin-free—exactly what I’m all about.

Have you made the switch yet? Drop your favorite clean mineral sunscreen in the comments—I’m always looking for new ones to try! And if you want to shop my exact lineup, everything is linked in the collage below.

Here’s to glowing skin and a healthier YOU — one intentional swap at a time.

xo, Kasey
