How & Why I Gua Sha My Face

09 14

Alrighty beauty people… let’s discuss Gua Sha! Since stopping botox almost a year ago as it doesn’t align with my non-toxic journey, I’ve started exploring other beauty treatments. Gua Sha is by no means a replacement for botox – i.e. freezing the muscles, BUT it really helps to drain/de-puff and lift the face. Consistency is key! I prefer to do it in the morning at least 5 days a week. And truly it’s pretty wild to see the before and after.

Gua Sha is an ancient Chinese technique that has literally been around since the Paleolithic Age. It is known to reduce inflammation (puffiness) and help circulation.

I put together a video tutorial posted on my Instagram. This will take you through my step-by-step routine but I will also lay it out for you here…

First things first, it’s important to apply a good oil to the face and neck so the stone can easily glide. I love MARA or Biossance.

Second it’s crucial to OPEN up your lymphatic system so the excess fluid/puff can drain while you Gua Sha (massage) the face. I do this by rubbing specific lymph areas in a circular motion, 10 times, under my armpits, collar bone, ears, bridge of my nose, and in between my eye brows. My video tutorial shows you a good representation of this.

Now it’s time to Gua Sha using my rose quart stone.

Gua Sha Routine…

+ 10x up jaw & down neck
+ 10x up mid face & down neck
+ 10x up cheek bone
+ 10x under eye (light pressure)
+ 10x eye lid (light pressure)
+ bring all fluid down the face & neck
+ 10x up forehead
+ 10x between brows

The image of me in this post is immediately after I did this routine. You can definitely see the difference in the video. I am way less puffy, my face is lifted/sculpted and my skin is super hydrated. YES please!

Give this a try and add it into your beauty routine! Leave any questions/comment you have.
