WOW, what a season it has been around my household (and I’m sure many of y’all’s). It’s Fords first year of preschool and the colds are back-to-back and NO joke. I’ve started to make my own natural remedies at home, and THIS lemon ginger tea is great. If you feel a cold coming on or currently have one, make it stat! There are 5 simple ingredients:
Ginger – reduces inflammation in the body (also helps w/ nausea)
Lemon – packed full of vitamin C
Honey – kills bacteria + cough suppressant
Turmeric – antioxidant + powerful anti-inflammatory
Cayenne – reduces inflammation + helps the ginger work to its fullest potential
After you make the tincture you can drink it hot or cold. I usually dilute it 1/3 with water and heat up. If it’s too “spicy”, add more water and/or honey. As long as you digest all of the ingredients, it will do the work! I store it on the counter. Using glass mason jars with a screw top is key – easy to shake and mix up!
See below for the details to make it! I hope y’all stay well.
{makes 8 oz – about 2 cups}
1 Tablespoon of fresh ginger grated
1 juice of a lemon
1 teaspoon honey
1/4 teaspoon turmeric
dash of cayenne powder
1. Place 8 oz of water into a pan. Add grated ginger. Bring to a simmer (not boil). Let steep for 2-3 minutes.
2. In a glass (I use mason jars) mix lemon juice, honey, turmeric and cayenne.
3. Use a small strainer to pour ginger water into the glass once done steeping.
4. Stir well.
5. Drink hot or cold.
Optional – dilute with a bit of water depending on how spicy it is. You can also add more honey for easier drinking.
