Hey y’all! These festive little skewers are my go-to for 4th of July and all our summer gatherings. They’re bright, juicy, naturally sweet, and the kids go wild for them—Ford and West love helping cut the stars. Plus, they look so cute on a platter and double as a fun, healthy snack that feels like a treat. No fancy ingredients, just fresh fruit and a little patriotic flair!
(makes about 12 skewers)
1 small-to-medium seedless watermelon (chilled is best)
1–2 pints fresh blueberries
8″ wooden skewers (I like the shorter ones for little hands)
Small star cookie cutter
Optional add-ins for extra fun:
Fresh strawberries or raspberries
A light sprinkle of Tajín or lime zest for a little kick
1. Slice the watermelon into ¾–1 inch thick rounds or slabs (easier for cutting stars).
2. Using a small star cookie cutter, press down firmly to cut out as many stars as you can. (Pro tip: Cut them close together to minimize waste—you can always snack on the scraps!)
3. Thread the skewers: Start with a star watermelon at the bottom for stability, then alternate a couple blueberries and then a star.
4. Arrange on a pretty platter and serve immediately, or chill for up to an hour before your party.
Total time: 15–20 minutes
Serves: A happy crowd of kids and adults
These are naturally sweet, kid-friendly, and perfect for hot summer days when you want something refreshing. They look adorable next to your red, white, and blue table setup and make for the cutest photos too.
What do you think—will these make it to your 4th of July spread? Tag @sbkliving if you make them so I can see your versions!
Happy summer, friends! ❤️🤍💙
