Hey there, guys! Today I’m discussing castor oil belly packs as it’s been a hot topic on my Instagram and part of my evening wellness routine. I am not a medical professional, however I have found this oil to have so many benefits – detailed below.
Castor oil use has been around for a very long time. It dates back to ancient Egypt as they used it for cosmetic and medicinal purposes. Although there is not a lot of modern science currently supporting castor oil, I have found it to be very helpful. I’m more on the Eastern medicine train of thinking hence my low/non-toxic life, so it’s up to you to decide.
I’ve been using it years as it’s a super hydrating for the skin. I started doing liver packs last March to help support my bodies detox post Explant. Yes, I used the big cotton wrap that cover the stomach/liver area. I did this for months while my body was flushing out toxins from surgery and implant removal. I could tell immediately once I started using it that is was working – i.e. my bowels.
A few months ago I started doing the smaller, belly oil pack, also called navel pulling. I LOVE this option as I find it to be much easier to do in the evening and wear. I do it 4ish times a week, applying before I go to bed and sleep in it. Depending on how your body reacts should dictate how often you do it.
I’ve been asked if you can simply rub the castor oil on your stomach. And yes you can, but you will only get the skin hydrating benefit. The purpose of the wrap and/or pack is to create heat so your body absorbs it deeper. Another way to help with saturation is to apply a hot water bottle on top of your stomach. I love doing this.
I found the small cotton belly button packs and organic hexan-free castor oil on Amazon.
Below is how I apply the pack and the benefits of wearing it.
[1] Pour organic hexan-free castor oil onto the center of the circled patch. Not outside the circle.
[2] Apply the pack with the circle directly over your belly button. Press adhesive around the belly button to stick.
[3] Sleep in the pack overnight. You will not even notice it’s on.
[4] Remove in the morning and throw away cotton pack.
lymphatic drainage and detox
digestion – regular bowel movements
bloating – flatter stomach
skin health – hydration
cramping – relaxing ab muscles
*Note: I’ve heard different takes on if you should wear the packs during menstruation. I have read that some love and others think it makes you bleed more. In my opinion, everyone’s body is different and you need to see what works best for you.
