Howdy, y’all! I’m pretty sure most of you are aware of my obsession with hats. I wear one 4-5 days a week. So ya, I’m kind of an expert on this topic. 😉 I have spent $25 to $300+ on a hat, depending on the fabric and quality. I’m happy to say there are many budg options on the market, and today, I will show you how to make them work for you!

How Do I Flatten Hat Brims?

There are a few different ways to do this but I’ve found the most effective is steaming! Yes, steaming. It’s SO easy! I’ve opened numerous boxes to find that the brim of a hat I ordered is all messed up. And when I say messed up, I mean, turned completely upright, twisted and even creased. That just won’t due! I use my mini steamer (only $21!) on my hat to relax the fabric back into its normal shape. Trust me, a little hot air goes a long way. It will allow you to shape your hat how you like. The image below is right after I steamed this new beaut of a tan hat. It works like a charm!

How Do I Make Hats Fit My Head?

Many hats, specifically lower price-point beauties, typically do not have a lot of sizing options. This being said many of the hats I love are either one size fits most or S, M and L. So how do you make it fit your head if you’re in between sizes? Let me tell ya! I use a little handy dandy tape foam insert. I apply one on the inside of the hat, where your forehead would meet the fabric. See image below for exact placement.

How Do I Store Hats?

I store my hats in a few different places around my room. One option is to display them on a shelf. That way they sit flat and you can see what you have. Another way I store them is to hang them on a wall. I currently utilize a bison head in my babe cave and a good nail in the wall (see below). My recommendation is to place them in a location where they will [1] not get smooshed and [2] you can see them.

How Do I Travel With My Hats?

There are a few ways to travel with hats but I always pack them in my HARD CASE carry on roller. This way they are protected from getting crunched and I always have them by my side!! If you are packing multiple hat, stack them on top of one another. I highly recommend traveling with a carry on suitcase not only because it is perf to keep your hats intact, but you can also pack your valuables in there too: jewels, luxe handbags/shoes and electronics. Trust me, it’s worth it!
