Chocolate-Dipped Mandarin Orange Slices

04 10

Hi y’all!

If you’re looking for a sweet treat that feels indulgent but won’t leave you feeling sluggish, these chocolate-dipped mandarin oranges are about to become your new go-to. They’re bright, citrusy, naturally sweet, and finished with just the right touch of rich dark chocolate and a sprinkle of flaky salt. The kids devour them, I feel good serving them, and they come together in minutes—exactly the kind of simple swap I love sharing here at SBK Living.

We make these on repeat during citrus season, and they’re perfect for an after-school snack, a light dessert, or even a pretty addition to a holiday grazing board. Bonus: they’re gluten-free, dairy-free if you choose the right chocolate, and packed with vitamin C and fiber.

Ingredients

4–5 mandarin oranges (or clementines), peeled and separated into segments

1 cup dark chocolate chips (I like 70% or higher for a richer flavor and lower sugar) – Pascha

1–2 tsp coconut oil (optional, for smoother melting)

Flaky sea salt (like Maldon) for finishing

Instructions

1. Prep the oranges: Peel your mandarins and gently separate them into segments. Pat them dry with a paper towel if they feel juicy—this helps the chocolate stick better.

2. Melt the chocolate: Place the chocolate chips in a microwave-safe bowl or glass measuring cup. Microwave in 20–30 second intervals, stirring between each, until smooth. Stir in the coconut oil if using for a glossier finish. (You can also melt over a double boiler if you prefer.)

3. Dip away: Line a baking sheet or large plate with parchment paper. Dip half of each mandarin segment into the melted chocolate, letting the excess drip off. Place on the parchment.

4. Add the finishing touch: While the chocolate is still wet, sprinkle with a tiny pinch of flaky sea salt. This contrast of sweet, bitter, salty, and bright citrus is everything.

5. Set & enjoy: Pop the tray in the fridge for 10–15 minutes until the chocolate firms up. Once set, they’re ready to serve!

Tips from the Kitchen

Use high-quality dark chocolate with minimal ingredients to keep it as low-toxic and clean as possible. This brand is my favorite: Pascha

These are best enjoyed the same day, but they’ll keep in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 2 days.

Want to make it even more fun for the kids? Let them help with dipping (just watch the mess!).
