Face Taping 101 + Q&A

01 12

Hi there! The clean beauty journey continues which has lead me down the path of face taping. Since giving up botox over a year ago, as it doesn’t align with where I am at in living a non-toxic life, I began to look for other natural modalities to help my skin. This is when I came across Gua Sha (I have a detailed post here), cupping and taping. AND great news, these are much more cost effective!

I must point out this will not give you the “frozen” results that Botox does, but it’s a great natural option to smooth. I was never a fan of the ice skating rink forehead / frozen face, so I love tapping! If you still get Botox and want it to last longer, this is also a great addition to your skincare routine.

I first started rogue by purchasing Japanese face tape and playing around with it. I then decided to get more serious as I was very interested in the why and how, and I purchased a guide from an expert. The one I bought and highly recommend is from Kathryn (Radical Radiance) – linked here. I also purchased her tape here. She also recommends this Amazon option.

One quick note is that there are different levels of tape – beginner, intermediate and advanced. Depending on your skin sensitivity and where you are targeting, is how I’d gauge the level you want to use. I started with the beginner to see how my skin was and have now moved on to using intermediate and advanced. Play around with it!

I’m on my 5th month of consistent taping and LOVE it! I currently tape 5 days a week, 2-3 days on and one day off depending on my schedule. I apply it about 20 minutes after my nighttime skincare and wear it while I sleep. It takes about a week to get use to the tape, and then you won’t even realize it’s on your face.

So what are the benefits?? The tape helps to lift and firm the skin, smoothing out fine lines and wrinkles. YES please! Essentially where you apply the tape helps to stimulate blood flow and lymphatic drainage. It also minimized your face movement while you sleep thus having less lines.

I can definitely tell the difference when I wear the tape vs. when I don’t. My forehead is smooth with no static lines at rest. I’m currently targeting where I used to get botox: my 11s (in between brows), forehead (above my eyebrows) and crows feet (around my eyes). I love that you can cut the tape specifically to fit your face! Once you get into it, you can tape SO many areas of the face and neck. This can even help with TMJ and draining your face (less puff).

Below I’m going to answer y’alls questions. I am posting a tutorial on how I’m currently taping my face on Instagram and TikTok. Check them out!

Face Taping Q&A

What face tape do you use?

I purchase mine from Radiance Rebel – link here.

How often do you tape your face?

5 nights a week. Typically 2-3 nights on and one night off to let my skin rest.

Do you sleep in the tape?

Yes. I apply it 20 min after my nighttime skincare.

Does it feel weird wearing the tape?

The first few times applying it does but after about a week, you won’t even feel it.

Do you apply skincare before?

Yes. I apply my normal nighttime skincare. I let it set for at least 20 minutes and then apply tape. If you use a face oil, I would wait longer or not put it on the areas where the tape is going.

How do you remove the face tape?

I slowly peel it off.

Does the tape irritate your skin?

It does not irritate my skin and I have sensitive skin. I started with the beginner tape and worked my way up to stronger options.

How is this different than Frownies?

I have never used Frownies however I have received a lot of feedback about them from y’all. I’ve heard Frownies only come in specific sizes, they have a weird smell, are more like a hard cast and are hard to get off.
