My living room is the definition of rustic-chic, mixing neutral colors, antlers, natural textures with pops of blush, fashion-inspired decor and fur. If you’re like me, you want your living room to be oh SO cozy. I mean… a lot of time is spent in this room binge watching Netflix 🙂 Amiright?! My goal with the living room space, was to create something that was visually pleasing AND functional. Often times I find people put their homes together with the mind set of needing everything to LOOK perfect and this tends to lack the “feeling” part of a home. A house can become uncomfortable quickly by spending to much money on furniture that is not functional and comfortable for everyday use. I’ve literally been in people’s homes that don’t use specific rooms for two reasons: [1] they spent WAY too much money and don’t want to “ruin” the furniture OR [2] It’s not comfortable so they end up in other rooms. This always seems SO silly to me! Well, I can tell you, that’s NOT what I’ve done in my house. It is so important to be efficient with you space, especially in bigger cities where you don’t have as much, purchase functional and comfortable pieces, make it look good AND not spend too much moolah in the process.
Let’s discuss my two favorite foundation pieces – couch and coffee table. These items are very important to set the tone of your room and I would argue the couch is the most important piece. The color, fabric and design will help guide your decor for this space. I purchased my beauty from Crate and Barrel (color: pearl) 4+ years ago and could not be more happy about my decision. Not only has it held up, the fabric is amazing as I’ve spilled a few glasses of RED wine 🙂 , it’s so COMFY and the design is classic. It checks ALL of the boxes. If you’re in the market for a new couch/sectional, I would suggest taking the time to go to the store/showroom and actually lay on them. The worst thing, is spending a lot of money on a sofa that uncomfortable! 🙁 Lastly, I would recommend selecting a neutral color – it will be timeless. You can use decor items to bring in color, i.e. pillows, blankets, books, etc.
Other than my sectional, the coffee table is a huge statement piece in my living room. I literally had to beg my husband for this piece of furniture for years! haha 🙂 When we were younger and money was tight, the last thing we wanted to spend moolah on was a coffee table BUT once we got it, we loved it! Furniture is sometimes a hard one for us Millennials to fork up cash on. As I’ve gotten older and become an “ADULT”, I would rather save up and spend my money on home goods. I love to create spaces and experiences in my home for my family and friends!
I suggest taking the time to pick out your foundation pieces as you will be spending more money on these items and hopefully enjoying them for years to come! They are an investment in your everyday living!
