Get ready for a chocolatey sweet treat! I love all kinds of bark from yogurt to chocolate because they are easy to make, a grab and go sweet and you can have fun with the season you’re in! If you missed my healthier Halloween recipe, check it out here.
Today I’m sharing a simple fall bark with a dark chocolate and coconut oil base followed by diced green apples, date sauce (a healthier caramel sauce option) and sprinkled sea salt. It’s a little sweet and a little salty – the perfect combo!
See below for a list of ingredients and steps to make.
2 cups dark chocolate chips – sub milk if you prefer
1.5 tablespoons coconut oil
1-2 green apples diced
1/2 lemon juiced
2 tablespoons of date sauce – sub caramel sauce if you prefer
sea salt
1. Dice the apples and place them in a bowl. Squeeze the juice of half of a lemon over top. Fill the bowl with water. Let them sit while you do the next steps. This ensures the apples won’t brown.
2. Place chocolate chips and coconut oil in a small/medium saucepan over low heat. Continue to stir until fully melted. Make sure not to burn the chocolate.
3. Put a piece of unbleached parchment paper on top of a baking sheet.
4. Pour melted chocolate mixture over the parchment paper. Use a spatula to move the chocolate around to an even rectangle shape.
5. Rinse the apples off and dry.
6. Place the apples on top of the chocolate.
7. Drizzle the date sauce over the apples and chocolate.
8. Sprinkle with desired amount of sea salt.
9. Place the bark in the fridge to harden. Takes about 20 minutes.
10. Once it is set, bring it out of the refrigerator and cut the bark with a knife. Enjoy!
