Hey there guys! If you’ve been following me on Instagram stories, you know I’ve been spending a lot of time looking into how to make my home more clean/less toxic.
My health and wellness journey started in my 20’s with clean eating. Then I took a deep dive into skincare products once I got pregnant 5 years ago. This has lead me to looking into all sorts of products I use in my home: cleaning supplies, candles, etc.
Now I’ve started to make some of my own cleaning products, hence this post on a DIY makeup brush and sponge cleaner. I searched for a non-toxic option, and couldn’t find one I liked. SO, I created one! It’s VERY easy, using two simple ingredients: non-toxic dish soap and olive oil. The soap ensures your brushes/sponges get clean and the oil moistures the bristles so they last longer.
Simply mix the two together, dip your brushes in, and clean using a mini strainer and water. AND trust, the strainer is a game changer to get everything off! I wash mine at least once a week. This helps alleviate bacteria and helps to not break out.
See below for my “recipe” and steps!
4 Tablespoons non-toxic dish soap – I use Rosey
2 Tablespoon olive oil – you could also use coconut oil.
Steps
1. Put soap and oil into a bowl. Stir until mixed. Should look milky.
2. Place brush/sponge into mixture. Let sit for about a minute to absorb.
3. In a circular motion, press brush onto mini strainer.
4. Rinse with water.
5. Repeat 2-4 until brush is fully cleaned and water runs clear.
6. Lay flat to dry on a towel.
