Pregnancy Morning Skincare Routine

As most of y’all know, I’m preggers, so finding a new skincare/beauty routine has been quite a task! I have found many great resources I’ll be sharing today, along with taking a deep dive into safe ingredients for moms-to-be. I have not only researched face skincare but makeup, haircare, lotions, deodorants and more. Look out for a pregnancy safe makeup post as well as a roundup of everything I use on my skin during pregnancy. I’m still testing a few products, so stay tuned!

Please note I am not a skincare expert and/or a doctor. I’m just a regular gal that cares about what goes in and on my body. These are my recommendations after doing my research, and trying pregnancy safe products for at least a month.

If you’re interested in a video tutorial of my pregnancy safe morning skincare routine, scroll down to watch it! I’ve also posted it over on my IGTV Instagram channel.

I’m happy to say, a lot of the products I use in my morning routine prior to becoming pregnant are safe! I did have to switch up a few of my steps and one being my ALL TIME favorite Lune and Aster CC Cream – boo hoo! 🙁 It is tragic, but I think I’ll survive for now… 😉 The reason it is NOT safe during pregnancy is, it uses chemical sunscreen. I’ve tested out at least 10 tinted moisturizes/cc/bb creams, with non-chemical SPF in the past 4 months, and I have found 3 I like…

Top three tinted moisturizers w/ SPF from least coverage to most:

EltaMD UV Elements Tinted Broad-Spectrum SPF 44

Bareminerals Rescue Complexion Tinted Moisturizer Broad Spectrum SPF 30

Tarte BB Tinted Treatment 12-Hour Primer Broad Spectrum SPF 30 Sunscreen

Resources

15 Minute Beauty – I love this blog started by a doctor, mommy and beauty addict. She reviews numerous products and explains if they are pregnancy safe or not. I found it very informative and a great starting point before trying many products.

Byrdie.com – I found an article about 14 ingredients to avoid during pregnancy on this site. I came across similar lists online, but I thought this was the most straight forward and easy for me to understand.

Ingredients to Avoid

As I mentioned above, I found numerous DO NOT use ingredients lists while pregnant. Here is a quick rundown of the ones to avoid. Again, I’m not a doctor, but these are the ingredients I researched and steered clear of…

Benzoyl Peroxide, Fragrance, BPA, Hydroquinone, Formaldehyde, Parabens, Phthalates, Retinoids, Salicylic Acid, Thioglycolic Acid, Chemical Sunscreens, Botulinum Toxin, Sodium Lauryl Sulfate and Diazolidinyl Urea.

Pregnancy Safe Skincare Routine – 8 Steps

[1] Peter Thomas Roth 24K Gold Eye Patches – I am SO happy to say my favorite eye patches of all time are pregnancy safe. I love to pop these on 3-4 times a week, in the morning, if I’m looking tired AF. They help with hydration and de-puffing the under eye area.

[2] Dermalogica Special Cleaning Gel – I use this cleanser morning and night. It doesn’t dry out your skin, which is very important to me since I live in a desert-mountain climate.

[3] SkinCeuticals Phloretin CF – This serum is a blend of phloretin, pure vitamin C and Ferulic acid that helps improve the appearance of discoloration, fine lines and uneven skin tone. Sign me up!! Since I can’t laser my face and/or use retinol why pregnant to help lighten my brown spots, Phloretin CF is a great alternative. I LOVE this product and so happy I can use it when baby is on board.

[4] PCA Skin Hyaluronic Acid Boosting Serum – One word, hydration! As I mentioned I live in a v dry climate, so packing on the products that give my skin moisture is key. There are many acids to avoid during pregnancy, but thankfully, hyaluronic is not one of them. I typically use this PCA serum morning and night.

[5] Glo Skin Beauty Conditioning Hydrating Cream – If you think I was lying about keeping my skin hydrated… I wasn’t! LOL After I apply my two serums, I use my Glo cream. It feels light on my skin, smells great and is packed with moisture.

[6] M-61 Hydraboost Eye Concentrate – Let’s not forget about our sensitive under eye area. It needs a little hydration love too. This is a newer product I started using 3 months ago and I’m hooked! It firms, smooth and hydrated your eyes, helping with fine lines. The M-61 concentrate is great under makeup; not peeling off – v important!!

[7] Bareminerals Complexion Rescue – I mentioned my daunting task of finding a tinted moisturizer that would hold up to my Lune & Aster CC Cream, and this gem was the closest I could find. It’s dewy, has SPF 30, evens out skin tone with medium coverage and is pregnancy safe!! After trying about 10 options, Bareminerals Complexion Rescue, was a major standout!

[8] Tarte Quench Lip Rescue Balm – This product is a new beauty favorite of mine. It goes with me everywhere! The balm is the perfect mix of lip hydration, a slight hint of color and a beautiful shine. There are 8 total color options and I have the “nude”. Watch my video tutorial to see what it looks like!

    • I have heard mixed reviews on chemical sunscreen. I need to do more research on it. If you’re worried about it, there are plenty of products that have SPF without chemicals.
